Six Weeks Before Move:

  • Call for moving estimates.
  • Call the Chamber Of Commerce and Visitors & Convention Bureau in your new town and get their new resident information packages.
  • Inventory all household items to be moved, and start packing NOW!
  • Remove all items from basement, storage sheds, attics, and plan a garage sale or charity donation for all items you don't want to move.
  • Start using things up that you can't move, like cleaning supplies and frozen food.
  • Discuss tax-related moving expenses, liabilities, and deductions with your tax advisor.
  • Make a list of all people/organizations to contact about change of address.
  • Complete U.S. Postal Service change of address forms and mail them to all applicable publications, stores and organizations.
  • Get copies of (or arrange for transfer at both ends of move) all school, medical, dental, veterinary, legal, and accounting records.
  • Contact insurance agents to transfer or cancel coverage.
  • If it's a company move, check with your employer to find out what moving expenses they cover.
  • Get a mail subscription for the local paper in your new location to familiarize yourself with the new community, its activities and issues.
  • Locate and obtain all automobile licensing and registration information.

Four Weeks Before Move:

  • Get an itemized list of all moving related costs and review with mover, including packing, loading, special charges, insurance, vehicles (if needed), etc.
  • Contact all current and new location utility companies (gas, water, electric, cable TV, phone & trash collection) to set connect/disconnect dates. Remember to keep current utilities hooked up until move day.
  • Make arrangements for relocation of pets and plants.
  • Move valuables to safe deposit box to prevent loss during move.
  • If you are packing yourself, acquire packing materials/boxes and pack items you won't need for the next month.
  • If professional mover is packing your goods, schedule packing day(s) 1 or 2 days before move.
  • Prepare any mowers, snow blowers, boats, snowmobiles (or other vehicles you won't be using before the move) for the move by servicing and draining gas and oil, to prevent a moving van fire.
  • Repair, send out for re-upholstery, or clean furniture, drapes, carpeting as needed.

Three Weeks Before Move:

  • Terminate newspaper and other delivery services at old address.
  • Give away all plants you don't intend to move.
  • If you're moving out of a building with elevators, arrange with management for use of elevators on move day.
  • Schedule for appliance disconnects on moving day or the day before the move, if necessary.
  • Contact your moving company counselor to review and confirm all arrangements for your move.
  • Withdraw contents of any safe deposit boxes, return library books & rental video tapes, pick up any dry cleaning, etc.

  • Have appliances disconnected and prepared for move.
  • Set aside one room for packers and movers to work in freely.

What our clients are saying

As first time homeowners, my fiancee and I were very nervous about taking such a major step in our lives. Joe Goretskie, my realtor, was truly a godsend. Any question I had, he was there with an answer and made me feel at ease. Joe, Aaron, Jeff and everyone else at Green Light were great. I'd recommend Joe and Green Light to anyone in the market for a new home. In fact, I've given Joe's business cards out to several of my friends. Thank you Green Light Realty for making our dream a reality. You guys are the best.

~ Rob Pajaczkowski & Megan Condon

"Aaron Wheeler is the best realtor!" "We absolutely LOVE this neighborhood and this house! Every night we literally sit on the couch and say how lucky we are to have gotten this place and what we have...we just really wanted to say thank you because you found this house and made that deal happen, even while you were at a festival you made sure to be available and you skipped your bowling tournament for us! You really pushed to find us a home we would be happy with and we couldn't thank you enough!"

~ Deanna Kramer

Christina, is a miracle worker and if I can rate her higher than 5 stars then I'd give her another 5 stars for her knowledge, determination, friendliness, and professionalism. By luck, I somehow found her through Zillow and I'd like everyone to understand you need to keep her as your favorite realtor for any current/future real estate needs. Christina really goes way beyond and truly understands her customer's needs. I want to thank her a million times because she found our dream home without me working the countless hours it would take. Christina, our family is in debt with you for finding this gem and I will always refer all my friends, family, and colleagues to come to you for your services. I'm also wishing you and your family the best in your new home! I wish there were more realtors like you out there but I was definitely blessed having worked with you. Get ready to come visit us in our little backyard for some good summer fun!

~ Marv Ochoa

Christina spent countless hours helping us find a home and sell ours. She is extremely hard working, easy to work with and understands her clients needs. Highly recommend her services.

~ Sue Nimmer

Christina has been an absolute gem to work with! She is extremely relatable, responsive, and maintains a spirit of lightheartedness while also managing to be extremely professional. Christina has been responsible for a number of real estate transactions for my family members, friends, and myself, and I could not regard her any more highly than I already do. She is a breath of fresh air in the real estate industry and her flexibility is certainly unmatched.

~ Alissa

....your best asset is Christina McDonnell. There are so many good things to be said about Christina, there is just not enough room here. I will try to sum up the best I can. Christina is not only very knowledgeable about real estate, she is very caring, understanding, she has the patience of a saint and stands her ground against realtors who think they are better. She does all this with grace and dignity. I never once heard or saw her react in a negative way. Believe me, she had reason but never did react. She had to withstand all kinds of comments and actions from the other realtors in the Basking Ridge area. She also showed me at least 84 different houses from the shore area to Hunterdon county. Not once did I hear a complaint. She is truly a professional. I would come back for her services in a second if I needed them. In fact, I’ve already told her, when I sell this house, I will be knocking on her door. I also promised not to look at 84 houses again!

~ Margaret

Jeff is the most awesome realtor that ever existed. He did not bang my head against other bidders and landed me the house of my dreams. He also sold my existing home super fast.

~ Robert Held

It was great working with Jeff. He worked hard throughout the selling of my home and finalizing the transaction. He's experienced, has a lot of connections and was able to get a great price for the house I sold.

~ Jeff Balsam

Best realtor and pizza maker I know. Jeffrey knows his stuff

~ Steve Dansereau

Jeff helped me sell my condo and I was very pleased with his skill level, knowledge and overall attitude. I am very picky about communication skills and his were extraordinary. I highly recommend this office for all of your real estate needs.

~ Mary Reiner Colleran

What started off as a general inquiry on a price of a foreclosure to possibly grab as a rental property, turned into a full-fledged search for our first home. The patience and determination shown so far has been second to none as we're probably about 10 months into our search, a few broken deals (some my choice, some not) and through it all, never one complaint or inkling of frustration. Passion, industry knowledge and experience are on full-display at Green Light Realty. If you are a buyer, seller or an agent looking to latch on with a new, modern company, I'd highly recommend Green Light Realty!

~ Omar Muniz

I have a condo that gets rented to a new tenant every year. Jeff has been super helpful and professional in finding quality tenants quickly. In addition, when we sold our home, he got us full asking price.
